But first-our affiliate needs help! They're low on members and submissions. The founder was talking about shutting down the group and that would be sad so please if you get the chance, stop over there and join and submit some stuff. They need active members!
So for these rec's, I'm not gonna put in links because that might give away too much plot.
Enjoy!
Dust and Shadow, by Lyndsay Faye
This book pits Holmes against Jack the Ripper. It's very well-written and in character. Exciting and fun. It's interesting to see Holmes collide with one of the most-well known events of his time.
The Beekeeper's Apprentice' (Mary Russel #1) by Laurie R King
Features a retired Sherlock Holmes meeting a teenaged girl and the two team up. It is a very good story and series, but I do have qualms with alot of it. Still, very worth the read!
The Veiled Detective by David Stuart Davies
Shows Holmes and Watson's meeting under a different light, especially in the case of Watson. Follows Holmes and Moriarty up through the latter's death. I was a bit cautious going into this, but no worries-It was fantastic. Very worth your time.
The Stalwart Companions by H Paul Jeffers
Features a young Holmes and a young Teddy Roosevelt. Interesting concept, very well played out.
The Trial of Sherlock Holmes
a graphic novel and a very good one at that. Holmes is under suspicion of murder, and Waston is left trying to prove him innocent. Even better, look for:
Sherlock Holmes Year One
A FANTASTIC graphic novel. What if Holmes and Watson had met before the events of Study in Scarlet? Murders copying those of the twelves Caesars and Holmes distracted by something personal. Definitely find this one.
The Angel of the Opera by Sam Siciliano
It's Sherlock Holmes meets Phantom of the Opera, wasn't isn't there to like? ...Well, beside Holmes' cousin replacing Watson, but you can generally ignore that. I loved this one, especially the interaction between the phantom and Holmes.
Good Night, Mr Holmes (Irene Adler #1) by Carole Nealson Douglas
If you're one of those few people who have not heard me go on about the brilliance of this series, now you can. It's Irene of the books, married, a rival to Holmes, not a romantic interest. One of basically the only writers to keep her in character. And she's got a Watson of her own, Huxley, who keeps the story grounded. These are really good. I've read nearly all of them, and really no complaints. Some scenes are written so perfectly, I could see them easily in a film.
Eye of the Crow (the Boy Sherlock Holmes #1) by Shane Peacock
Holmes as a child. Brilliant, sneaking around London, finding slight romance, solving cases. And making choices that will one day shape him into who he is. This series is a marvelous work.Very worth it. Very interesting seeing the young counterparts of some of the greatest characters in Sherlock Holmes.
Death Cloud (Young Sherlock Holmes #1) by Andrew Lane
Another Young Sherlock Holmes book. Less characters than in peacock's story, and a different plot entirely. But still very well written. Mentions of the young Mycroft, Holmes' annoyance with the other students--little things that are fun to spot.
A Study in Sherlock by Various, edited by Laurie R King and Leslie S Klinger
A fantastic collection of Sherlock Holmes related stories. I'd recommend 'An exact Knowledge of London' and 'The Case of Death and Honey'.
The Strange Return of Sherlock Holmes by Barry Grant
Holmes returns to modern day in a sort of cliche escape from death. BUT the series is wonderful (I believe there are 3 out now). Holmes is still Holmes, and is out solving cases with newly acquired friend Wilson.
The House of Silk by Anthony Horowitz
Some consider it to be one of the best, which is why I put it on here...thought I thought it was just annoying. The author tried I think to hard to sound like Watson's original narratives, so much that it sounded strained. This book, however is interesting in how largely debated it is. So many think it's good, alot think it's bad. Worth a short to see what you think.
For now that's all. More videos and books recommendations later.

Admin update
I don't do alot of updates about myself on this page because it's primary focus is Sherlock and I don't think you guys will care much to read about me
But
I'm almost definitely remaking my dA account, meaning I will most likely no longer be founder of this group (and therefore not in charge of it)
I'm working on getting more admins who are willing to be active in the group, so I won't deactivate this account until this happens.
But this is just an update to say that the group ownership will probably change hands soon.
Unless I can keep this account active, and make me new account co-founder, and then deactivate this one
In that case, don't wo

hey guys it's been a while since I've actually written a journal about updates to the group.
Basically here's the rundown of things that will hopefully explain why things have been slow here.
I've been in the process of deleting all my fanfics here because I've moved them permanently to ao3 for many reasons (if you watch me read my journal, if you don't, I know you don't care).
Because my primary art interest is writing, this means I'm rarely on dA anymore, except to check things and submit the occasional drawing.
Meaning that this group doesn't approve submissions as quickly, or draw in new art from other groups.
SO HERE'S WHERE THE ADMI
SOPA and info on submissions
We had a commenter on it (MissEvalyn (https://www.deviantart.com/missevalyn)) giving some facts on what's going on in case anyone was interested I thought I'd post them in a separate Journal

Thank you for posting these! I've been wanting to read some good non-cannon Sherlock books! I'll keep this list in mind next time I'm at the bookstore!
